Improved Chex Party Mix (Less Salty, More Flavor)

Improved Chex Party Mix (Less Salty, More Flavor)

The original Chex Mix always seemed a bit too salty to me. I wanted it to be more balanced and to have more variety, without any added work. After a lot of small tweaks, this version became my go-to. It’s still easy and familiar but with better flavor and more to the mix. It’s a snack perfect for gatherings and for grabbing a handful while passing through the kitchen. And it’s great for hungry kids when you don’t want them to ruin their appetite.

Improved Chex Party Mix (Less Salty, More Flavor)

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 250°F.
  2. Melt butter in a large roasting pan in the oven.
  3. Once the butter is melted, add the Worcestershire sauce, stir.
  4. While the butter melts, mix the other ingredients and seasonings in a large bowl.
  5. Add mixed ingredients into the roasting pan and thoroughly combine. This may take several minutes to coat everything.
  6. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool and store it in a sealed container at room temperature.

Note

Quick Tips:

Using mostly unsalted nuts keeps the mix from becoming too salty.
Stirring during the baking helps distribute the seasoning and prevent hot spots.
This mix keeps well for several days at room temperature, making it a good make-ahead option.
It works well as a snack or even as a quick breakfast on the go.
