Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing

Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing

Store-bought ranch just doesn’t taste the way it used to. I’m not sure what changed, but something just tastes a little “off.” Maybe it’s the long list of ingredients, several of which I can’t pronounce. Making ranch dressing at home brings back that familiar, fresh taste. Most of the ingredients are likely already in your kitchen, and it comes together in minutes.  It’s simple, reliable, and flexible enough to use far beyond salads. We use it on everything from salads (of course) to French fries and everything in between. It can be a good way to get the kids to eat vegetables that aren’t their favorite.

Easy Homemade Ranch Dressing

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a medium bowl until smooth and well combined.
  2. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
  3. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use

Note

Quick Tips

Use buttermilk, or reduce the amount of milk slightly, for a thicker dressing. This dressing thickens a little after chilling. If it sits overnight, give it a quick stir before serving. Fresh herbs can be substituted for dried if available. Just double the amount and mince thoroughly. Use garlic powder and onion powder, NOT garlic/onion salt.

Grocery List (By Department)

Produce

  • Fresh dill (optional)
Dairy
  • Whole milk
  • Greek yogurt
Condiments
  • Mayonnaise
Pantry/Spices

Apple cider vinegar

Dried dill

Onion powder

Garlic powder

salt

Pepper

Note

This is one of those small swaps that make an everyday meal better. It takes just a few minutes to make, tastes the way ranch should, and has a way of making vegetables more appealing. But don’t stop there! It’s just as good drizzled over chicken or served alongside a plate of hot, crispy French fries.
